Preliminary Treatment (Screening & Grit Removal)
Raw sewage passes through bar screens and grit chambers to remove large floating solids, plastics, rags, and heavy grit. This protects the downstream mechanical equipment from damage and clogging.
Primary Treatment (Sedimentation)
The sewage enters a primary clarifier where gravity allows heavier suspended organic solids to settle at the bottom as raw sludge, while lighter materials like oil and grease float to the top and are skimmed off.
Secondary Treatment (Biological Aeration)
This is the heart of the STP. Air is pumped into the aeration tank, encouraging the growth of beneficial aerobic bacteria. These microorganisms actively consume and break down the dissolved and suspended organic matter in the wastewater.
Tertiary Treatment (Filtration)
The treated water passes through Dual Media Filters (DMF) and Activated Carbon Filters (ACF). This removes any remaining fine suspended solids, color, and odor, making the water crystal clear.
Disinfection (Chlorine / UV Dosing)
In the final step, the water is treated with chlorine or ultraviolet (UV) light to neutralize any remaining harmful pathogens, viruses, and bacteria, making the water completely safe for reuse or safe discharge.
Sludge Management (Dewatering)
The settled organic sludge collected from the primary and secondary clarifiers is processed through a filter press or sludge drying beds. This removes excess water, converting the wet waste into dry, solid cakes for safe environmental disposal or use as organic manure.
